The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has released the first draft of the global report on collective progress in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework(KMGBF). Drawing on national reports, updated national biodiversity strategies and action plans, and other sources of information and knowledge, this first global stocktake highlights progress toward the KMGBF targets and implementation challenges across countries and regions. Although the framework has driven unprecedented global engagement for nature, the report indicates that the global goal to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030 will not be achieved unless action by countries accelerates rapidly, noting that countries are falling short on 22 of 23 targets.
