Dynamics of the polycrisis: temporal trends, spatial distribution, and co-occurrences of national shocks (1970–2019)

New research from Cambridge University on the dynamics of the polycrisis can help you to better respond to the interconnected risks it presents to your operations, your value chain partners, and to communities and ecosystems. The study unpacks six categories of shocks (climatic, geophysical, ecological, economic, technological, and conflicts-related) to explore how they have evolved over time, how they distribute globally, and how they tend to co-occur. The study explains how shocks tend to co-occur more frequently in certain regions, and that climatic, technological, and conflict-related shocks often coincide and amplify one another. Accordingly, the study highlights the need for smarter crisis management to prevent amplification. This study will be especially beneficial to professionals responsible for evaluating risk and scenario planning.
